Pride take care of business in 76-64 win over Culver-Stockton

DUBUQUE, Iowa - After a quick trip for away from the Kehl Center last weekend, the Clarke University women's basketball team returned home to pull away with a 12-point win over Culver-Stockton College on Wednesday night.

The Pride used an 8-2 run to finish the final 1:19 of the first quarter to push their lead to 10 as they wouldn't ever let the Wildcats get it back to a one possession game as they would lead by 10 at the half, nine after three quarters, and by a final of 76-64 as the final buzzer sounded.

At the end of the first quarter, both Mya Merschman and Madison Lindauer would hit three pointers before Izzie Peterson beat the buzzer for two to put it at 26-16. Lindauer shined in the first half, scoring all of her 11 points in her nine minutes played in the first half to set a new career-high in her brief Pride career.

Culver-Stockton would hang around despite trailing by CU's largest lead of 15 in the third quarter as they would cut the margin to as slim as seven points with under five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Clarke would go on a mini run of their own again to pull back ahead by double figures as cruise to the finish for their 12-point win.

Once again, Tina Ubl was the team's leading scorer with her second-straight 20-point performance as she scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field while adding two rebounds and two steals.

Fellow fifth year senior Emma Kelchen looked to be back to her normal self after battling a minor injury the last two games as she was a rebound shy of a double-double at 14 points and nine rebounds.

Clarke will be home for their next two games, first hosting Peru State College for the first matchup of the season between the Pride and the Bobcats of the 2022-23 season at the Kehl Center for a 12:00 p.m. CT tip.
