Pride win every quarter on their way to 66-50 victory over Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - In their lone road game before spring semester classes start in January, the Clarke University women's basketball team earned a 16-point victory over Evangel University on Saturday.

The Pride pulled away to a 66-50 victory with scoring advantages in every quarter and were able to extend their lead to double figures on multiple occasions but significantly in a 20-12 third quarter that saw CU hold a 52-39 lead heading into the fourth.

As a team, Clarke outshot the Valor from the field as CU finished 25-for-57 (44%) compared to Evangel's 23-for-68 (34%) with the Pride also shooting an efficient 5-of-12 (42%) where EU only made two of their 18 attempts from long range.

Senior Tina Ubl led the way in scoring for the Pride, continuing her streak of double figures scoring as she extended it to seven-straight games with her 20-point performance on Saturday. Ubl shot 50 percent from the field and from three point range going 8-for-16 in total and 2-of-4 from deep while adding six rebounds and four assists.

Nicole McDermott and Taylor Haase backed up Ubl in double figures as McDermott finished with her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while adding four assists of her own as Haase was one rebound shy of getting a double-double of her own with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Evangel's only player in double figures was Alexis Cauthon who had 12 points in just 11 minutes of action as the Valor had advantages in the secondary stat categories of second chance points and bench points but it wasn't enough to keep them in the game down the stretch.

Clarke women's basketball will return home for three-straight games at the Kehl Center starting next Wednesday when they host Culver-Stockton College for a 5:30 p.m. CT tip on Jan. 11.
