Pride run away with doubleheader sweep over Maranatha Baptist
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Getting their second-straight day of non-conference in the middle of a homestand, the Clarke University softball team earned a pair of five inning run rule victories over Maranatha Baptist University 15-1 and 17-0 on Friday afternoon.
Pride pitching gave up a combined three hits over the 10 innings played with Hannah Peña and Madison Gonzalez teaming up for the game one win as Peña went three innings of no-hit ball allowing just a walk while striking out six of the nine outs she recorded while Gonzalez had three strikeouts over two innings allowing one hit and one run.
Offensively in game one, Clarke got contributions up and down the lineup, most notably from Sydney Haas, Teal Transburg and Hailey Hornick in the three, four, and five spots in the order with Haas going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Transburg going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, then Hornick had two hits and a game-high tying three RBIs as Annika Husemann also drove in three runs.
Maya Griegel and Jazz Daughtrey both had a pair of hits in the game with Arianna Black and Reece Fleming both producing one hit and two runs scored as Fleming also added a pair of RBIs, then Cassandra Scheper had a pair of runs scored at the top of the CU lineup.
Game two had Karlee Transburg and Husemann split the pitching duties as both only allowed a single hit with Transburg striking out five in two innings of work and Husemann striking out two batters in three innings.
Jenna Ulin and Gonzalez had two-hit games for the Pride in game two with Gonzalez joining both Karlee and Teal Transburg as well as Scheper, Black, and Husemann with two RBIs in the game.
Peña, Fleming, Daughtrey Haas, Griegel, and Hornick all also produced at least a hit or a run scored in the game to help close the finale out in five innings to pull Clarke's overall record to an even .500 at 15-15 so far in the 2025 season.
Pride softball will jump back into Heart play on Saturday, Apr. 12 when Park University visits Veterans Memorial Park for a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT to continue the four-day homestand for CU.
