Pride close 2024 season dropping 3-1 match against No. 8 Missouri Baptist

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Finishing their 2024 campaign with Senior Day inside of the Kehl Center, the Clarke University men's volleyball team was unable to close out the year with one more victory as they fell by a final of 3-1 to No. 8 Missouri Baptist University on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans used a potent attack to carry their way to winning the first, second, and fourth sets by larger margins and just drop the third set by the minimum to final set scores of 25-17, 25-14, 23-25, and 25-12.

Finishing with a team hitting percentage of .337, MBU was led by a trio of hitters that finished with double digit kills and a hitting percentage over .280 as Auston Bonte finished with 16 kills and a .333 hitting percentage while he was supported by Michael Olson's 13 kills and Aleksa Mandic's .421 hitting percentage and 11 kills.

Not to be outdone by the offensive players, both team's liberos finished with near similar statlines as Marko Jovanovic of the Spartans finished with 18 digs and two service aces while CU's Kendall Killins finished with a four set season-high 15 digs while adding an ace of his own.

Both Zachary Barr and Justin Hernandez finished with six kills as Hernandez and Stephen Lewandowski combined for all of the seven blocks as Hernandez had two solo blocks and teamed up with Lewandowski for all four block assists for the Pride as Lewandowski also added a solo on the match.

Kainoa Gerard had a team-high 15 assists, splitting setting duty with PJ Vaughan who finished with seven while David Rudic of Missouri Baptist had a match-high 33 assists while adding three digs and being in on thre blocks.

Pride men's volleyball opened the day by honoring their three true seniors on Timothy Meyer, Curtney Germaine, and Tye Ojala as Lewandowski also was honored in his final match of his fifth season in Dubuque.

Clarke finished their 2024 with a 6-22 record while going 3-15 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference to finish in ninth place in the conference.
