Pride outlasted by Ravens in tight road loss

ATCHISON, Kan. - Following their final non-conference game earlier in the week, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team got back to Heart of America Athletic play on the road against Benedictine College where the Ravens pulled out a 13-9 win on Thursday night.

The Ravens won all but one quarter by slim margins with a 3-2 first, a 4-2 second, and a 3-2 fourth but the Pride were only able to manage a 3-3 tie in the third quarter to be unable to cut into that three-goal lead that BC got through the first half as Benedictine never trailed and only allowed the Pride to get within two goals in the second half.

CU's leading point scorers included a one-goal, four-assist game from senior Justyse White as he scored his goal in the second quarter to tie the game at 3-3 along with a three-goal game from Xavier Howard, who scored a goal in the first quarter then two in the third.

Other multi-point performances came from Matt Archer's two goals and one goal along with one assist from Henry La Belle as he cooled off a bit following back-to-back games where the sophomore totaled 17 goals.

Pride goalie Jack Fritz was tested quite often as the junior faced 29 shots on goal against to make 16 saves compared to the Ravens goalie only seeing 17 shots on goal against where he made eight saves on the day.

Clarke men's lacrosse will stay in the southern parts of the Heart for their final road game of the regular season when they face William Woods University on Saturday, Apr. 12 for a 1:00 p.m. CT scheduled opening faceoff in a matchup that will likely determine the a spot in the Heart Tournament.
