Pride sweep Heart Players of the Week following season-opening shutout
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Starting their season with a win for the first time since 2019, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team also receives a pair of individual honors from the Heart of America Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon as attack man Matt Archer and defender Drew Dorenbush earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the Heart.
The Pride earned a 9-0 victory on the road over Concordia University Chicago last Tuesday as Archer tallied a point on all but two of the CU scores with a career-high six goals while adding an assist while Dorenbush added a goal of his own while also assisting on one of Archer's goals in the first quarter while helping lead the Clarke defensive unit to the first shutout in program history.
Archer's six-goal game is the most goals in a game by any Clarke player since Conner Cole's back-to-back six-goal games on Mar. 19 and Mar. 22 last season while Dorenbush notched his seventh-career goal while the Pride defense only allowed the Cougars to get five shots on goal, which were all saved by CU goalie Jack Fritz.
Clarke men's lacrosse will be back on the road this Saturday for their next game when they travel to Fremont, Neb. to take on Midland University for a 1:00 p.m. CT opening faceoff between the Pride and Warriors.
