Pride salvage a win in the series with Saturday split against Benedictine

ATCHISON, Kan. - In a late switch due to weather to play the remaining two games of their series, the Clarke University baseball team and Benedictine College split their Saturday doubleheader in Atchison, Kan. for the Ravens to earn the series win.

Saturday's games went 2-1 in favor of the Pride in the first game and 8-4 for the Ravens in the finale for Benedictine to take the series two games to one following a single game in Peosta on Thursday where the second game was called up due to the cold weather and extreme winds.

Devan Quesada was strong on the mound in the first game to go a complete seven innings striking out seven batters while allowing six hits and a walk to pick up his eighth win of the season.

The game was scoreless for the first five innings before BC struck first in the sixth inning but the Pride would score two in the bottom of the seventh, as the home team since they were originally scheduled the home team, to walk off as winners.

In that seventh inning, Victor Lara dropped down a successful squeeze bunt with runners on first and third to score Bryce Simon before Brendan O'Connor doubled home Daniel Phyle to walk it off as a CU victory.

Unfortunately for the Pride, they couldn't carry that moment through the full seven innings of the finale despite being up 3-1 after two innings, the Ravens would tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the third and score five runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings to take and extend their lead to the eventual 8-4 margin.

Clarke baseball will take a short break from Heart play when they travel to La Crosse, Wis. to face Viterbo University on Wednesday for a single game at 2:00 p.m. CT against the V-Hawks.
