Pride drop Homecoming match to No. 22 Grand View
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Playing their first Homecoming match since the 2019 season, the Clarke University women's volleyball team fell by a 3-0 final to No. 22 Grand View University on Saturday afternoon in the Kehl Center.
The Pride put up a strong fight in the first and second sets to scores of 25-20 and 25-18 before GVU showed their mettle to pull away in the third 25-9 to close out the match.
CU lead early in the first set, all the way to 14-12 before the Vikings would put on a 4-0 run to take their own two-point lead and forced a Clarke timeout. The Pride couldn't regain much momentum after that timeout as Grand View would never relinquish their lead and finish off that set 25-20.
The second set told a similar story with again another early Pride lead when the Vikings would this time produce an extended run to take a 9-8 CU advantage to turn the tables all the way to 17-11 in their favor after a 9-2 run.
Clarke's attack struggled to find consistency throughout the match, finishing with a negative hitting percentage as a team after committing 25 attacking errors to just 22 kills as Keely Colyer led the Pride with six kills and a .091 hitting percentage.
Grand View's attacking duo of Ellie Dougherty and Victoria Campos Mello combined for 23 of their 34 team kills as Dougherty had a match-high 12 kills with Campos Mello adding 11 of her own with a match-high .375 hitting percentage.
Pride women's volleyball will return to the non-conference for their final non-Heart match of the season when they travel to Pella, Iowa to face off with Central College for a scheduled 6:00 p.m. CT start on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
