Pride end weekend with 3-0 loss to Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Playing in a rare Sunday afternoon match, the Clarke University women's volleyball team wasn't able to carry momentum from their Saturday night win to Sunday as they dropped a 3-0 match to Baker University on the road.

The Wildcats and Pride played a pair of tight two-point set wins for BU in the first and second as Baker left no doubt on their way to the sweep finishing the match with set scores of 26-24, 25-23, and 25-10.

Going to extra points, the first set was a tight one throughout up until CU took a 20-17 lead forcing a Baker timeout before they answered with a three-point run of their own to get Clarke to call a timeout as the largest lead from that point on would stay at one point before a kill and an ace for the Wildcats after 24-24 would give Baker that first set win.

BU would seemingly carry over a bit of momentum into the second set, jumping out to various three-point leads before the Pride would produce a bit of a comeback to lead 11-9 but then it would be a 5-0 Wildcat run to put the set at 15-11 in favor of Baker.

Clarke was able to tie the set back up late at 23-23 but for the second-straight set, Baker would score the final two points of the set, sealing the deal with a block to win 25-23.

Neither side had standout offensive numbers as BU's Aby Widhalm led all players with nine kills as a total of seven Wildcats had three or more kills while the Pride only had four attacking players at more than three kills led by an eight-kill performance from Maya Watters.

Continuing a strong senior season statistically, libero Rylie Bohanan finished with a match-high 16 digs, tying her most digs in a three set match this season as she's finished a three set match with 16 digs four times so far in 2024.

Clarke women's volleyball will have a quicker than normal turnaround to their first home match in Heart of America Athletic Confernece play when they welcome Culver-Stockton College to the Kehl Center on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for a 7:00 p.m. CT scheduled first serve.
