Rowland runs her way to second Track Athlete of the Week during freshman season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Completing a strong week on the track that included three school records and two NAIA qualifying times, Clarke University women's track and field athlete Allena Rowland was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Rowland ran in four different events between two different meets the Pride traveled to last week at the UD Relays hosted by University of Dubuque where she ran in the 200-meter dash then at the Viking Classic hosted by Grand View where she ran in the 400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles, and 4x400-meter relay.
In all three individual race she ran, Rowland won the event while breaking the school record in each as well, posting a 25.43 in the 200, a 56.96 in the 400, and a 1:04.42 in the 400 hurdles as the times in the 400 and 400 hurdles also hit the B Standard for qualification to the NAIA Championships in Marion, Ind. on May 24-26.
This Heart weekly honor becomes the second time Rowland was selected as the Track Athlete of the Week for the Heart as she also earned the designation during the indoor season on Jan. 30.
Clarke track and field will be off to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Heart Championships on May 5-6 as Rowland will look to bring home some conference medals for the Pride in the outdoor season.
