Pride feel at home for UD Relays
DUBUQUE, Iowa – A handful of Pride track and field athletes were able to compete in Friday's UD Relays as a tune-up before next weekend's Heart of America Outdoor Conference Championships held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Tying for first place in their respective events were Allena Rowland, who ran the women's 200m dash in 25.43 seconds, and Wyatt Wilkins in the men's hammer throw, hitting a personal-best mark of 47.53 meters.
Freshman Brody Deitering competed to a second-place finish in the men's pole vault (3.85m) and 11th place in the discus throw (30.96m). Also on the men's side, sprinters Gavayne Smith (10.80s) and Josh Musonda (11.13s) led the way earning sixth and seventh. Musonda (22.72s) also ran the 200m as he finished just ahead of freshman teammate Kain Sourbeer (22.75s) who placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Running the men's 1500m race was freshman distance runner Drew Pate who placed eighth with a time of 4:20.50.
On the women's side, Emma Grant competed to a fourth-place finish in the pole-vaulting event by hitting a mark of 3.43m.
Pride women throwers Royal Hart and Marlie Beauchem competed in multiple events today as Hart's highlight was a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.94m. Beauchem's best performance was in the same event, reaching 42.18m, good for seventh.
Similar to today's event, a handful of Pride track and field members will be hitting the road tomorrow to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Viking Classic.
