Pride tout various top 10 finishes at Pioneer Opener
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Hitting the track and field for the second time in the outdoor season, the Clarke University track and field teams saw various top results at the University of Wisconsin Platteville's Pioneer Opener on Saturday.
The top finishes both came in jumping events as Tyler Kell finished the men's high jump in second place with a 1.95-meter clearance as he came up just shy in his three attempts at 2.00 meters, which won the event. On the women's side, Emma Terwische finished the long jump with a third place finish as her best jump landed at 5.10 meters as Anyah Ranson finished in sixth place with a 4.80-meter jump, Grace Squires had a 4.65-meter jump for eighth place, and Isabelle Matthews finished in 10th at a 4.61-meter jump.
Throws had the Pride in solid finishing spots as well with Wyatt Wilkins and Marlie Beauchem finished in the top-10 for their respective hammer throw compeition with Wilkins finishing in seventh with a 44.18-meter throw and Beauchem finishing at 40.20 meters.
On the men's side, both Gavayne Smith and Camden Foesch qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash as they finished in sixth and seventh respectively with Smith's 11.08 time in the finals just edging out Foesch's 11.15 as Foesch had an even 11.00 in qualifying.
Clarke had more top 10 finishes in sprints for the men with River Alvarado's 23.36 finishing the 200-meter in 10th while Kain Sourbeer and Josh Musonda going fifth and sixth in the 400-meters with Sourbeer finishing at 52.01 and Musonda running a 52.43.
The pole vault also had top 10 finishes as Emma Grant and Squires tied for eighth on the women's side with matching 3.15-meter clearances and James Vandun had a 10th place finish with a 4.00-meter clear.

The Pride also sent a trio of female runners down to St. Louis for Washington University in St. Louis's Distance Carnival and Invite as Rory Bickler set a new school record in the 10K with a 39:28.03. Allena Rowland and Jaycie Franco also made the trip with Rowland winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.53 while also running a PR of 26.06 in the 200-meters for fifth place and Franco set her own PR in the 1500 meters with a 5:19.13.
Clarke track and field will have a quicker than usual turnaround as their next meet will be on this upcoming Wednesday when they travel to Davenport, Iowa for St. Ambrose's outdoor invite meet.
