Pride open Heart play with 0-0 draw at Park
PARKVILLE, Mo. - Coming off of an exhibition in their most recent contest, the Clarke University women's soccer team opened Heart of America Athletic Conference play on the road against Park University with a scoreless 0-0 draw.
Saturday marked the first game for the Pride to play senior goalkeeper Faith Krapfl for all 90 minutes after CU played every non-conference game with Krapfl and freshman Abigail Turley splitting duties evenly at a half apiece in their first four games of the year.
Krapfl would come through to make four saves for her first individual shutout of the season and Clarke's third as a team and the second resulting in a 0-0 draw after play a scoreless 90 minutes in their season opener against St. Thomas at home on Aug. 21.
Taking one more shot overall in the game than the Pirates, the Pride were only able to get two shots on goal against PU's Frankie Williams as she made both of those saves in the first half where Clarke outshot the Pirates 7-3 in the opening 45 but were then outshot 5-2 in the second half.
Among the field players, six members of the CU lineup played over 80 minutes with Keylilah Guttierrez, Hailey Packer, Morgan Lock, and Malia Silvers playing the full 90 minutes while seniors Abby Prunty and Laryssa Pritchard both going over 80 minutes in the game but Clarke was still able to play a deep 18 members of the roster in an attempt to rotate in fresh legs over the length of the game.
Pritchard and junior Melony Jimenez were the two members of the Clarke offense to get off multiple shots in the game with Jimenez leading the team at four shots and had the only two to go on goal while Pritchard took two shots in her 84 minutes on the pitch.
Pride women's soccer will return home for their next Heart matchup when they welcome in William Penn University on Wednesday, Sept. 10 for a 5:00 p.m. CT scheduled kickoff against the Statesmen at Burrows Field.
