Pride fall short in 2-0 loss to No. 6 Central Methodist
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Hoping to stay unbeaten at home and repeat their last home performance against an NAIA ranked team, the Clarke University women's soccer team fell short of that goal in a 2-0 loss to No. 6 Central Methodist University on Saturday afternoon at Burrows Field.
CMU, specifically Kirstine Lykke, was able to score a goal in each half, first breaking through on the scoresheet in the 29th minute of the game when Lykke as she was able to beat a Pride defender to get some space inside of the 18-yard box to fire a near perfect shot into the upper right corner of the goal to make it 1-0 Eagles.
Clarke goalkeeper Faith Krapfl was able to make two more of her three saves in the first half following the Lykke goal to keep it at 1-0 as Krapfl would finish the game with four saves on six shots on goal with her counterpart, Madison Priebe of Central Methodist only needing to make three saves over the entirety of the game.
Lykke would strike again in the 58th minute when Lacey Ann Murray found some space outside of the box on the left side of the field to send a hard low cross into the box where Lykke was able to get her left foot to it before anyone from the CU defense could cut it off to make it 2-0, where it would hold over the remainder of the game.
The three Pride shots on goal were taken by Laryssa Pritchard and Bailey Wiemann as Pritchard took two of them and Wiemann took the third with CU only able to take two of their seven total shots in the second half in an attempt to produce a comeback.
Clarke women's soccer will have one game remaining in the regular season as they will play a Halloween Night road game in Des Moines, Iowa when they travel to take on Grand View University on Oct. 31 with a scheduled 5:00 p.m. CT kick off.
