Cruz, Catchur Lead Pride in 5-1 Victory

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Clarke University women's soccer team came out of senior day victorious with a 5-1 conference win over Baker University.

The Pride were able to get on the board first in the 27th minute when junior Shannon Catchur was able to find the back of the net on a pass from senior Genevieve Cruz. Nine minutes later, Cathur was able to return the favor to Cruz and she made the score 2-0 late in the first half. Four minutes after Cruz made it 2-0, sophomore Morgan Catchur hit the crossbar on a free kick opportunity.

With four minutes remaining in the first half, BU was able to get on the board when sophomore Lydia Brinker cut the lead in half. The Pride went into half leading 2-1 and the shots were even at 14 apiece.

At the 51st minute mark in the second half, Catchur once again set up Cruz for a similar play and Cruz scored her team leading eleventh goal of the season and made the score 3-1.

In the 65th minute, Catchur once again showed off her skills, this time going around multiple BU defenders and scored her 10th goal of the season to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Pride. Late in the second half, freshman Samantha Rodriguez put the finishing touch on senior day, scoring her second goal of the season and putting BU away 5-1.

Freshman keeper Faith Krapfl got the start for the Pride and made 11 saves and earning her second career victory.

Catchur led the Pride with 5 shots on goal and Cruz chipped in 3 shots of her own.

The Pride women's soccer team will be on the road to face Grand View on Tuesday, October 25th for an 8:00 pm CST kick.
