Krapfl Earns First Win as Pride Defeat Culver-Stockton 3-1
CANTON, Mo. – It was a night of firsts for the Clarke University women's soccer team as they improve their conference record to 4-3 (8-4-1 overall) after Wednesday night's 3-1 victory over the Culver-Stockton Wildcats.
The Pride attack has been mostly dominated by the same consistent names, but tonight we had three different and new goal scorers.
Over a minute after the Wildcats scored to take the lead in the 26th minute, Morgan Catchur headed the ball passed the Wildcat keeper off a free kick from Addy Seaman to even the score at 1 apiece. Both teams would go into the locker room with seven shots apiece.
Pride attacker Genevieve Cruz led the team in shots on net with three and had two scoring chances, including a shot that hit the post. Seconds after Cruz hit the post in the 64th minute, junior defender Hope Ward was able to head the ball off a corner kick for her first goal of the season and give the Pride a 2-1 lead.
The Wildcats had a hard time putting any offense together in the second half, as only one shot reached freshman goalkeeper Faith Krapfl. Krapfl got the nod in net this evening for the first time since August 26th's season opener in Arizona. The Pride keeper made six saves and secured her first career win.
Freshman midfielder Laryssa Pritchard put the game away in the 79th minute when she beat a tired Wildcat defender to score her first career goal from just outside the box.
The Pride women's soccer team will host #12 Missouri Valley on Saturday, October 8th for a 1pm CT kick.
