Pride drop Homecoming matchup with MidAmerican Nazarene 5-1

DUBUQUE, Iowa - In the middle of a hectic Homecoming Saturday on the campus of Clarke University, the Pride women's soccer team were unable to pull out a victory against MidAmerica Nazarene University as MNU earned a 5-1 victory.

The game stayed scoreless through most of the first 30 minutes but the Pioneers broke through with the first goal of the game from Giovanna Castro right after the 29-minute mark that was followed shortly after with an Emily Carrasco goal to make it a 2-0 game headed into the halftime break.

Unfortunately for CU, they couldn't get that next goal as MidAmerica Nazarene extended their lead with a goal in the 54th minute from Castro once again then finished up by extending the game to 5-0 in the 83rd minute on goals from Ona Barron and Bella Leon.

The Pride's lone tally came in the late stages as freshman Samantha Rodriguez notched her first goal of her collegiate career with a successful penalty kick in the 90th minute to break the shutout and end it at 5-1.

Clarke women's soccer will flip-flop road and home games over their next four nearing the home stretch of the 2022 season starting with a road matchup at Culver-Stockton College next Wednesday, Oct. 5 for a 5:00 p.m. CT scheduled kickoff in Canton, Mo.
