Second Half Dooms Pride in 3-1 Loss

ATCHISON, Kan. – The Clarke University women's soccer team were handed their second conference loss of the season on Saturday evening when Benedictine College defeated the Pride 3-1.

It was a tale of two halves for the Pride as they went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage with Benedictine having a 6-5 shot advantage. The second half started with an equalizing goal just three minutes in. The aggressive Ravens attack led to the Pride being outshot 14-3 in the second half and 20-8 overall. The Ravens were able to score the game winner and an insurance goal just 47 seconds apart.

The Pride were able to get on the board in the seventh minute when senior Jamie Albertson sent a beautiful cross into the box where junior defender Hope Ward headed towards the middle where Shannon Catchur was able to head it herself passed Raven goalkeeper, Olivia Berry. Ward had another opportunity in the 44th minute, but Berry made a strong save to push the shot over the net.

The Ravens were honoring their seniors, but it was junior defender Annabelle Hoog who gave the Pride fits all night. Hoog got the scoring started for the Ravens in the 48th minute off a corner kick that bounced around inside the box. Hoog, finished the night with 5 shots, with her second goal coming in the 63rd minute when freshman Christine Znidarsic sent a cross into the box where Pride keeper April Lashomb was unable to control and Hoog kicked it through. The Ravens were able to score their second goal of the game just 47 seconds before Hoog's second goal of the match when senior Nicole Patterson sent a shot from distance just over Lashomb's mitt in the left corner of the net.

The Pride host Graceland on Tuesday September 27th for a 5:30 kickoff.
