Lashomb, Miller Lift Pride to 4th Straight Victory

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Clarke University women's soccer team continue their strong start to the season with a 1-0 win over division three opponent Beloit College.

The Pride asserted themselves early and often throughout the contest with consistent possession that led to a 19-4 advantage on shots, with only 2 of those shots reaching freshman keeper April Lashomb. With tonight's win, April Lashomb now has more wins on the season (5) than goals given up (4) and improves her goals-against average to .67. On top of that, she has completed three consecutive shutouts and only given up one goal in her last four contests.

Pride sophomore Sofia Morales set the tempo early, which included a strong shot just ten minutes into the game that was well played by the Buccaneer keeper. Pride freshman Samantha Rodriguez was inches away from scoring twice tonight, including one ball in the 30th minute that the Buccaneer keeper aggressively played up to snag before Rodriguez could get an opportunity.

Pride junior Shannon Catchur was inches away from scoring for the second night in a row when she hit the crossbar with four minutes remaining in the first half. Shortly after, a Buccaneer defender misplayed a ball back to her own keeper and the ball rolled just wide of the net. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie with the Pride leading in shots 11-3.

The Pride continued to dominate the pace of play at the start of the second half, which led to scoring chances from Genevieve Cruz and Samantha Rodriguez. The pressure proved to be successful in the 56th minute when freshman Samantha Miller was able to score her first career goal off the feed from Genevieve Cruz. Miller's goal was all the Pride needed as they finished the second half with an 8-1 advantage on shots

The Clarke University women's soccer team look to continue their winning ways Saturday night when they take on #6 Central Methodist University at 11:00 am CST at Burrows Field.
