Pride women's lacrosse receives four selections to Heart All-Conference Teams
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two days out from the inaugural Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament Championship, the conference announced their All-Conference Teams on Thursday afternoon as four members of the Clarke University women's lacrosse team earned Second Team honors.
Those four members of the Pride were attacker Jocelyn Lawrence, midfielders Alyssa Humphrey and Emily Moran, and defender Cameryn Cox as the 2023 season becomes the first season for all four individuals, earning All-Conference honors as CU was part of the KCAC prior to 2023.
The trio of Lawrence, Humphrey, and Moran all had double digit goals on the season led by Humphrey's 34 on the season as she added five assists to led the Pride in points with 39, both career-highs for the Lee's Summit, Mo. native. Humphrey also collected 29 ground balls, earned draw control 48 times, and caused 18 turnovers as she scored a goal on 81.8 percent of her shots on target.
Moran was close behind Humphrey's offensive output as the junior finished with 29 goals and four assists for 33 points on the season as the four assists set a new career-high for the Chicago, Ill. product. Another key player on draws, Moran was able to win the draw for Clarke a team-high 58 times as she also grabbed 22 ground balls and caused nine turnovers in her junior campaign.
Lawrence led the team in assists with a career-high 10 as she also added a career-high tying 16 goals while leading the team in scoring percentage with 85.7 percent of her shots on goal being scored for the best rate on the team. Taking most draws for the Pride, Lawrence would only be credited for 23 draw controls but helped Clarke control 138 draws compared to their opponents winning 115 on the season as Lawrence also added 13 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers.
Cox was a steady presence on the defensive end for CU playing and starting in all nine games while using her speed to mark attacking players while never being one to shy from contact in necessary situations. The senior from Seward, Ill. scored her lone goal of the season in the Pride's season finale win over Missouri Valley as she was credited with 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers on the season.
Clarke finished the season 3-6 overall and 1-4 in Heart playing, falling a game short from qualifying for the Heart Tournament as the fifth-place team in the standings in head coach Irene Carlquist's first season leading the Pride.
