Pride fall 20-13 to Midland on Senior Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Honoring their seniors in their Thursday night non-conference matchup, the Clarke University women's lacrosse team dropped their first home game of the year in a 20-13 final against Midland University.

The Warriors picked up their offense in the second half to outscore CU 12-5 after the teams went into halftime tied 8-8 as MU ended the third quarter with a 6-3 advantage and the fourth quarter outscoring the Pride 6-2.

For the Pride, the game was highlighted by a pair of career-first goals as Mary Engelkens and Vaneza Diaz both found the back of the net for the first time in their lacrosse careers as Engelkens scored in the second quarter to tie the score at 5-5 and Diaz scored the final goal of the game to set the score at its final of 20-13.

The game's leading scorer was Midland's Chloe Harrison as she scored six of the team's 20 goals while adding a pair of assists as Madilynn Edwards was right behind Harrison with five goals and two assists.

Clarke's Alyssa Humphrey had the same stateline as Edwards, leading the Pride with five goals and two assists while Emily Moran, Jocelyn Lawrence, and Jazlynn Adams all scored twice with Lawrence and Adams adding an assist while both Engelkens and Diaz had their lone goal.

Clarke women's lacrosse will stay home to face the defending NAIA Champions Benedictine College as the game was moved from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening as official announcement of the game time change will be made later in the week.
