Pride's second half woes lead to 21-10 loss to St. Ambrose
DAVENPORT, Iowa - Hoping to extend their season-opening winning streak to three games, the Clarke University women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season in a 21-10 defeat to St. Ambrose University on Tuesday evening.
The Pride played a strong 30 minutes in the first half to head into the break trailing 8-6 with a 4-2 second quarter advantage helping CU recover from a 6-2 first quarter from the Fighting Bees. That success didn't last into the second half for Clarke as SAU was able to limit the Pride to just two goals in each of the third and fourth quarters while outscoring CU 13-4 in the second half.
Maddie Wiltrout for St. Ambrose had a game-high seven goals while adding a pair of assists as Aubrey Warner added four goals and Lauren Hoesly had a seven-point performance with two goals and five assists for the Bees.
Clarke's Emily Moran led the Pride in scoring with four goals and an assists while Alyssa Humphrey had three goals, Jocelyn Lawrence had two goals and an assist, and Jazlynn Adams was able to find the back of the net for a goal.
The St. Ambrose goalie combination of Maggie Samson and Saige Carlton combined for 14 saves while allowing the 10 Pride goals while Clarke's Katarina Saenz-Dubravcak made 11 saves while playing every second in goal for CU.
Clarke women's lacorsse will return home for their second of three games this week when they host Midland University at Burrows Field this Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. CT start.
