Pride rally in the fourth quarter but fall 12-11 to Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa - In a make-up date from what would have been the Clarke University women's lacrosse season opener, the Pride fell to Wartburg College in overtime by a final score of 12-11 on Tuesday night.

The team's traded one-goal quarters as Wartburg was able to jump out to a 3-1 lead after a period before CU answered with a 5-1 second quarter to lead 6-4 at halftime. The Knights came out of the gates in the second half with a strong third quarter to jump ahead 10-7 before a Clarke fourth quarter advantage of 4-1 forced an 11-11 tie and overtime in Waverly.

Unfortunately for the Pride, Lindsay Langford of Wartburg was able to find the back of the net for her first goal of the night with just 45 seconds left in overtime to clinch the 12-11 win for the Knights.

Clarke's Emily Moran led all goal scorers with six goals on the night as she was backed up on the offensive side by two goals from Jocelyn Lawrence and a goal apiece from Lindsey Wanaski, Alyssa Humphrey, and Madison Frey.

Wartburg's leading scorer was Bri Greiskalns as she netted five goals and added two assists as Britta Solheim and Elle Johnson both had two goals along with goals from Kristen Mahoney, Olivia Christianson, and the one from Langford.

Mars Beimert made 12 saves in net for CU on 24 shots as the keeper for the Knights, Alyson Hasner, finished with nine saves and the 11 goals allowed.

Up next for Clarke women's lacrosse will be a home matchup inside of the KCAC as Missouri Baptist University will travel to Dubuque for a women's and men's doubleheader that will start with the women facing off at Burrows Field at 4:00 p.m. CT.
