Newcomers post top scores for Pride golf at Clarke Fall Invite
GALENA, Ill. - In their first event of the 2023-24 season, the Clarke University men's and women's golf team finished with fourth, sixth, and tenth place finishes between the three total teams that competed on Tuesday in Galena, Ill. at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa.
At the North Course, the men's A-Team was led by transfer junior Jacob Luett, who finished in sixth place with a 75 (+1) for the best score and finish of any of the 11 competitors for the Pride men on the day. He was followed closely by his teammated in Jared Martinson as the graduate carded a 78 (+7) to also place in the top 10 at eighth place in the field of 77.
The rest of CU's top-five consisted of Jesse Frye's 81 (+10), Alijah Dopson's 85 (+14), and Logan Winn's 88 (+17) as their top-four scores led to a fourth place finish at a team score of 319 (+35).
A new member of the Pride also led Clarke's women's effort at the South Course of Eagle Ridge as freshman Allea Stone had the top score with a 110 in her first collegiate event. Halle Boldt (113), Camdyn Penick (118), Jessi Wagner (123), and Maddie Patten (135) rounded out the one-through-five lineup as Maya England and Katherine Whitson both competing as individuals to start their season.
Clarke's second group of five on the men's side saw Anthony Eddy lead the group with an 83 (+12) as Mitchel Coffey scored an 88, Francis Resurreccion finished at 89, Hayden Hoekstra had a 94, and Alex Beard finished at 108 while Preston Beels opened up with a 95 as an individual.
Pride men's and women's golf will both be off of the course for at least a week as the men will be back in action next Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the St. Francis Invite in Jolet, Ill. while the women's next event will be at The Meadows in Asbury, Iowa as part of the Loras Invite.
