Pride fall in 2024 finale at Southeastern
LAKELAND, Fla. - In their final regular season game of the 2024 calendar year, the Clarke University women's basketball team fell on the road to Southeastern University by a 95-62 final score on Friday afternoon.
Turnovers doomed the Pride in the Sunshine State as they committed 21 turnovers that led to 33 Fire points off of those turnovers, which was the final margin of victory for SEU, as the first quarter saw CU turn the ball over nine times for Southeastern to score 13 of their 27 opening-quarter points to hold a 27-12 lead after 10 minutes.
The Fire would extend their lead in each subsequent period to pull away from Clarke as they would shoot 35-of-69 (50.7%) from the field and have four players in double figures led by Mya Herman's 20 points with Jodi Mullins adding 17, Grace Field producing 14, and Courtni Demorest scoring 13 on the day.
Clarke's leading scorer was Hailey Walters as the junior scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-17 (52.9%) shooting from the field while adding four rebounds and three assists as the only other member of the Pride in double figures was Sydni Morris, who added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Pride women's basketball will head to their Christmas break to be away from regular season action until Thursday, Jan. 2 when they head to Parkville, Mo. to face off against Park University as they will compete in an exhibition game against Western Illinois University before the calendars turn on Monday, Dec. 30 in Macomb, Ill. with a 6:00 p.m. CT scheduled opening tip.
