Adams continues high jump climb as Pride wrap up action at Mustang Distance Carnival
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Just about at the halfway point of the 2024 outdoor season, the Clarke University track and field teams continue to set new top program marks as they finished up a two-day event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the Mustang Distance Carnival.
Most notable of the five new school records set was once again as a result of the high jump prowess of freshman Daniel Adams as he topped his NAIA A Standard jump of 2.10 meters with a 2.13-meter clearance to place the Muscatine, Iowa native with the second-best height in all of the NAIA.
Joining Adams with new record-setting performances from this weekend were Rory Bickler and Emmett Schwartzhoff in the women's and men's 5,000-meter run, Gabrielle Dillard in the 100-meter dash, and Gavayne Smith in the 200-meter dash.
Bickler and Schwartzhoff both competed in Friday evening's portion of the event as they both set new best times in the 5k, Bickler topping her own mark she set earlier this season with her Friday time of 18:03.52 and Schwartzhoff snapped a record set in 2019 with his 15:29.69.
Smith, who owns the Pride indoor 200-meter record, set a second outdoor sprinting record in as many weeks after grabbing the 100-meter record last week as he now also holds the 200-meter record outdoors with his 21.91-second run on Saturday.
Dillard, like Bickler, topped her own record set last week in the 100-meter dash as she improved on her 12.43 from last week to run a 12.36 today to finish the meet in fourth place on Saturday.
