Small group of Pride track and field athletes finish week at Good Friday Open
DUBUQUE, Iowa - While having athletes still on campus during Easter break, Clarke University track and field used the opportunity to compete in Dubuque at University of Dubuque's Good Friday Open with nine total athletes posting official times/distances on Friday.
Of those nine competitors, six men and three women competed with eight of the 10 events competed in coming on the track and the other two being the triple jump and pole vault.
In those two field events, Elijah Douglas competed in the men's triple jump to a fifth place finish with his best jump finishing at 12.65 meters while Malia Beich finished 10th in the pole vault with her top height cleared at 2.65 meters.
Allena Rowland continued to impress as she won the 800-meters with her 2:24.01, which is good for a top-five time in the Clarke record books. Jaycie Franco and Kole Haverly also ran in their respective 800-meter races as Franco finished sixth in the women's field with a 2:33.99 and Haverly earned fifth place among the men at 2:02.48.
The men's runner group of Gavayne Smith, River Alvarado, Kain Sourbeer, and Josh Musonda all competed on Friday with Sourbeer running in both the 400 (51.68) and 200 (22.86) while Smith (23.00) and Alvarado (23.33) just ran in the 200 and Musonda (51.15) ran in the 400 as well.
After competing in three events over a seven-day stretch, Pride track and field will get back to a once-a-week schedule for the remainder of April before the Heart of America Conference meet in the first week of May.
