Pride begin outdoor season at Viking Relays
DES MOINES, Iowa – At the Grand View Viking Relays over the weekend, Clarke University track and field recorded 14 top six finishes, including three finishing on top.
It was a strong showing in the 4x400 relay's as the women led by Allena Rowland, Anyah Ranson, Isabelle Matthews, and Jaycie Franco placed on top of three other teams with a time of 4:16.70. In the same race for the men, James Vandun, Brody Deitering, Carson Sansenbach, and Kole Haverly finished fourth in their field in 3:34.89. Running the same group of men in the 4x800, the Pride would place 3rd with a time of 9:00.66.
Also finishing in first was Rowland in the 400-meter hurdles and Grace Squires in the women's pole vault. Rowland crossed the finish line in 1:05.97 seconds and Squires was able to vault a mark of 3.05 meters.
Able to get four of the top five spots in women's pole vault, Autumn McLaughlin finished in second and Emma Grant third as they each also hit a mark of 3.05 meters. Finishing in the fifth spot was Malia Beich who reached 2.60 meters.
Freshman from Moline, Ill. Ranson would have a strong day as she would finish second in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.12 seconds, Eighth in the 200 finishing in 28.39, and fifth in the high-jump clearing 1.47 meters.
The Pride women would have three top 10 finishers in the long jump competition as McLaughlin would be their highest finisher, placing third reaching 4.61 meters. Grant and Beich would finish fifth and 10th respectfully, reaching 4.55 and 4.29 meters.
Emmett Schwartzhoff, Vandun, and Sansenbach each would place seventh in their respective events. Vandun finishing in seventh in the 110-meter hurdles crossed the finish line in 19.73 seconds. Schwartzhoff finished the 1500-meter in 4:10.06. Sansenbach completed the 400-meter in 51.87 seconds.
Running long distance for the women, Franco placed fourth in the 800-meter by finishing in 2:34.27. Rory Bickler ran the 1500 and placed sixth by running in 5:03.27.
Both the men and women team had javelin throwers as Matthews was the lone thrower on the women's side. She placed 12th by throwing a mark of 21.08 meters. Dietering and Vandun both competed for the men as Deitering placed sixth and Vandun 12th respectfully, throwing 38.99 and 32.24 meters.
