DUBUQUE, Iowa – Returning to action for the first time in seven days, the Clarke University men's soccer team played Baker University to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening.
The Pride had to recover quickly after BU scored in the first thirty seconds of the contest after Pride keeper Fernando Contreras couldn't hold onto a save that was scooped and scored by Wildcat junior Hunter French.
The Pride were able to get on the board in the 39th minute when sophomore Luke Persenico scored his ninth goal of the season on a penalty kick. Shortly after, Persenico had another PK opportunity, but this time BU keeper Christian Villegas was able to make the stop.
The score would remain 1-1 going into half with the Pride being outshot 12-2 and had a 4-0 advantage in corners.
Once again there was a quick strike to start a half, but this time it was the Pride as sophomore Kevin Kloss scored just 40 seconds into the second half to give a 2-1 advantage.
BU took advantage of a penalty kick in the 65th minute to even the score at 2-2.
Pride keeper Fernando Contreras was tested early and often as he made 11 saves in 76 minutes of gametime. Freshman Nicholas Lizondo came in to replace Contreras and made 3 huge saves late to keep the game at a tie.
Persenico led the way with 3 shots on goal as the Pride were outshot 23-8 for the game.
The Pride men's soccer team will be on the road to face Grand View on Tuesday, October 25th for a 5:30 pm CST kick.
