William Penn hands Pride first loss of 2022 by 4-0 final
OSKALOOSA, Iowa - Starting their conference schedule with back-to-back draws at home last week, the Clarke University men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season in a 4-0 final to William Penn University.
The Pride surrendered two goals in each half to lead to that 4-0 final score as four different goal scorers found the back of the net for the Statesmen in the 23rd, 44th, 72nd, and 75th minutes.
WPU's Milton Magana opened the scoring in that 23rd minute as the Pride looked to either keep it at 1-0 or tie the game by halftime but a nicely timed lob through ball from Conor Keylock found Ryan Louis behind the defense as CU goalkeeper Fernando Contreras made the aggressive play to try and clear the ball well out of the 18-yard box but Louis shot it by Contreras to score a late first half goal to make it 2-0 at the break.
The score would remain 2-0 for much of the second half but with William Penn controlling the action as they would eventually outshoot Clarke 23-10 with 11 of the shots for WPU going on goal and only two going on goal for the Pride.
Shalon Knight would score the third goal for the Statesmen followed by the final tally coming on an assist from Magana to Chanin Olandin just under three minutes after Knight's goal to finish the scoring with just about 15 minutes remaining.
Clarke will remain on the road for their next game this Saturday when they travel to Atchison, Kan. for a meeting against Benedictine College scheduled for another 7:00 p.m. CT kickoff.
