Pride's early goal not enough as William Penn takes 2-1 win
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Looking to use their home field advantage to get them back to winning ways, the Clarke University men's soccer team fell short of their third home win of the season as William Penn earned a 2-1 victory at Burrows Field on Wednesday night.
The Pride's Ricardo Alonzo scored the first goal of the game in just the sixth minute of the game to give CU an early boost as that lead would last for a good part of the first half.
Unfortunately for Clarke, the Statesmen controlled a good part of the game, firing 28 shots compared to just nine for the Pride in the full 90 minutes. Of those 28 shots, only seven found their way on target towards CU keeper Fernando Contreras as the two WPU goals were scored in the 38th and 44th minutes, both by Gianmarco Centrella.
Up next for the Pride will be another home game this Saturday when they welcome Evangel University to Burrows Field for 4:30 p.m. CT scheduled start time.
