Pride men's soccer earns 1-1 draw with Park University
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Clarke University Pride men's soccer team came to its first draw of the 2021 season Saturday with a double-overtime 1-1 Heart of America affair against the Park University Pirates at Burrows Field.
The Pirates (2-0-1, 1-0-1) tallied the first marker in the 49th minute when Mohamed Ndaliro scored unassisted. Six minutes later, Clarke midfielder Lucas Bordini scored his first goal of the season off of an assist from Elvin Carrasco to tie it up in the 55th minute.
Clarke went on to attempt nine shots in the second period, including an attempt by Jake Persenico that was saved by Park's goalie, but were unable to find the back of the net and went into overtime.
In the first overtime period, Clarke kept Park from gaining any offensive momentum, however the Pride were unable to convert their two shot attempts into points, thus heading into a second overtime.
The second overtime saw the two programs go back-and-forth with field positing, with Clarke being able to get one shot off. However, that shot by Luke Persenico in the 100th minute sailed wide left. Clarke was unable to gain any other offensive momentum within the final 10 minutes, coming to the 1-to-1 draw with the Pirates.
The Pride (4-3-1, 1-0-1) drew 21 fouls, including four yellow cards, compared to Park's nine fouls and two yellows. Each squad fired off 16 shots, while Park held the advantage in corner kicks 8-to-1.
The Clarke men's team will be off for a week before hosting Benedictine College Saturday, Sept. 25 for an 8 p.m. match.
