Agundez's near perfect record on the faceoff leads to second Heart weekly honor of 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - As they hit the road for their first Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup of 2025, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team sees senior faceoff specialist/midfielder Abraham Agundez earn his second Heart Defensive Player of the Week after his strong performance in CU's 6-5 loss at Marian University (Wis.) last Saturday.

That low scoring affair in Fond du Lac, Wis. saw possession of the ball play a vital role as neither side held any lead larger than two goals where the Pride were also able to limit their opponent to just 25 shots, 13 on goal, in the 60-minute contest.

Agundez was able to play a major role in limiting Marian's possession with his 14-for-15 mark on faceoffs as he was also able to secure seven ground balls in winning those draws.

In this second individual honor for the senior from Edgewater, Md., Agundez continues a strong start to his 2025 campaign after earning the Heart and NAIA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 24-25 following CU's season-opening win on Feb. 23.

So far on the season, Agundez leads the Heart with 46 faceoff wins in 67 chances for a 68.7 percent win rate through four games after finishing his first season in navy and gold with 130 faceoff wins and a 45.3 percent win rate.

Pride men's lacrosse have started the year 1-3 and are currently on the road for Oskaloosa, Iowa to match up against William Penn University as the No. 7 Statemen have begun their 2025 campaign 2-1 earning a win in their Heart opener on Mar. 7. Opening faceoff between the two teams is slated to be at 6:00 p.m. CT at Statesmen Community Stadium.
