Pride golf teams split head-to-head matchups in match play event at Edelweiss Chalet
NEW GLARUS, Wis. - Finishing an 11-day span where they played seven rounds of golf, the Clarke University men's golf team finished that stretch with their lone match play event of the fall in their Match Play at The Chalet event at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club on Thursday.
The event's format was for each player to compete in a head-to-head matchup against a player for another team, earning points individually and for their teams with each match-play style hole won or halved.
Clarke's top lineup earned a 48.5-41.5 victory in their team matchup against Viterbo as the Pride B lineup dropped a similarly close match to Southwest Tech 47.5-42.5.
The top scoring individuals for each team were Logan Winn and Hayden Hoekstra as they put up double digit points with Winn totaling 13.5 points in his match and Hoekstra scoring 11 points. Anthony Eddy also won his matchup with a double digit point effort but was competing in an individual head-to-head matchup with a sixth member of the Southwest Tech team for Eddy to take hom a 10.5-7.5 win.
Four other members of the Pride won their matchups based off of their point total as Jacob Luett, Jared Martinson, and Mitchel Coffey all finished with 9.5 points to win their matchups by a single point/hole.
Jesse Frye was able to tie his matchup with a nine-point effort, Francis Resurreccion and Alex Beard scored eight points, Alijah Dopson earned seven points, and Preston Beels put in a six-point effort to round the scoring on the team matchups.
Clarke will continue their fall schedule next week with another two-day event when they head to the Quad Cities and the NAIA Invitational at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. starting on Monday, Sept. 25.
