Eddy reaches 1,000-point plateau in Pride's 2023-24 finale at Peru State
PERU, Neb. - Closing out their 2023-24 season on the road, the Clarke University men's basketball team fell to Peru State College 100-69 on Saturday afternoon.
The story for the Pride didn't end up being the final result but if fifth-year senior Anthony Eddy would be able to get to 1,000 career points in his three-year career at Clarke as he needed 28 points going into Saturday and did hit that number exactly to finish with 1,000 points at CU exactly, the 17th player in program history in the 1,000-point club.
With the Bobcats leading by as many as 31 in the later stages of the second half, Eddy was eight points away with less than eight minutes remaining as he made two free throws and two three pointers, his final triple coming with 3:11 remaining in the game to get to 28 points and not only get to exactly 1,000 points but also exactly 200 three pointers made in his Clarke career, becoming just the fourth player in program history reach that feat, joining DeMonte Bynum, Keith Johnson, and Franz Winkler.
Eddy scored 16 of his 28 in the first half where the Pride jumped out to a 26-9 lead but proceeded to go scoreless over the next 4:27 of game time where Peru State would go on an 18-0 run that would extend to 36-14 over the final 11:09 of the half.
Peru State finished with six different players scoring in double figures led by a pair of 16-point performances from Carlos Hines and Savyon Traylor as they both nearly shot exactly the same from the floor as Hines went 6-for-12 (50%) and Traylor went 6-for-13 (46.2%) as they both hit four three pointers.
Ty Griggs (13), Skyler Wilson (12), and Ajantae Hogan (11) all added double figures off the bench while David Wingett Jr. had a 12-point and 10-rebound double-double in 31 minutes, starting the game for PSC.
Clarke men's basketball finishes their 2023-24 season with a final overall record of 7-21 with a 5-19 record in the Heart of America as they'll head into the offseason losing Eddy as well as four true seniors in Daquon Lewis, Chris Burnell, Stefan Vasic, and Demarcus Zaragoza with Biggie Luster, Jake Layman, Nick Bryant, and Carson Lindauer highlighting the key expected returners for the 2024-25 season.
