In 2023, quarterback play and passing game improved tremendously under the guidance of Gempeler, Mount Marty had their first All-Conference quarterback in Ken Gay, as well as All-Conference running back Isaiah Johnson, All-Conference wide receiver Jonah Miyazawa, and All-American tight end Rex Ryken. In 2024 Freshman signal-caller Rugby Ryken, under the tutelage of Gempeler, helped lead Mount Marty to their first winning season, 6-5, since starting football in 2021 as running back Malachy Starks also received Second Team All-Conference honors.
Before making his way to South Dakota, Gempeler spent the 2022 season quarterback/running back coach, director of operations, and assistant special teams coordinator for Graceland University; located in Lamoni, Iowa. Gempeler saw three quarterbacks play that season, with quarterback Cade Ross and running back Adarius Thomas gaining All-Conference honors as he helped the Yellowjackets produce their first wins in over three seasons to a 4-7 record in 2022.
From 2020-2021, Gempeler was the associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterback coach for Shadow Mountain High School; located in Phoenix, AZ. At Shadow Mountain, Gempeler took over the reigns of offensive coordinator and saw an increase in offensive production, especially in passing. Guiding three wide receivers to All-District honors, an All District quarterback, and helped implement the youth feeder team which increased the roster size over the next couple of years.
Before he joined Shadow Mountain, Gempeler was a professional quarterback overseas in Bremen, Germany where he also held a role as an assistant coach for the adult, women's, and youth teams.
An alumni from Kansas Wesleyan University, Gempeler coached quarterbacks and offensive skill positions during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. While competing for the starting quarterback position, Gempeler battled injuries and was recognized for his football knowledge, leadership, and a natural ability to mentor and coach quarterbacks within the system, which helped promote him to assistant quarterbacks coach. Under his guidance, quarterback Johnny Feauto received All-Conference and All-American Honors during the historic 2018 season where KWU finished 14-1, making it to the NAIA Semifinals.
A native to Temecula, CA, Chasen graduated from Vista Murrieta High School before taking an opportunity to continue as a student-athlete for College of the Redwoods; located in Eureka, CA. While playing quarterback for the Corsairs, he saw success as the started and was a two-time NorCal Player of the Week in 2015. His career-high performance, 37-48 538 yds and three touchdowns, is still third all-time in school history. From there he went to Morningside College before ultimately earning his degree and valuable coaching experience at Kansas Wesleyan University.
Residing in Dubuque, IA, Gempeler is faith and family based individual. He dedicates a lot of his time outside of football with his family and loved ones. His sole mission through coaching has never wavered from the true development of men.
