PEOSTA, Iowa - For the final time of the 2025 season, the Clarke University baseball team took to their home field for a doubleheader in a non-conference matchup against St. Ambrose University as the two teams split both games with a 12-4 SAU win in the opener followed by a 10-5 win in the finale for the Pride.
CU took an early lead in game one on a Jaxon Brooks two-run double but the Fighting Bees would get three runs back in the second and third innings to take their first lead of the day at 3-2 before their inability to turn a double play created a two-run play for Clarke to make it 4-3 in the botttom of the third.
St. Ambrose would go on to score nine unanswered runs, starting with a three-run fifth, getting a two-run home run in the sixth, and adding four more runs in the seventh to run away with their eight-run victory as their pitching staff limited CU to just four hits but walked 10 batters.
The Pride got the bats going in game two with a four-run first inning thanks to an Alex Reynozo RBI double, a Jin Hattori RBi ground out, a Cole Swartz solo home run for his first career home run in three seasons at Clarke, then Diego Guevara would singe home a run to make it 4-0.
CU would add four more in the third with a run sandiwched into the second to lead 9-1 after three innings with Swartz, and Hattori adding another RBI each and leadoff man Dean Ormonde hitting a three-run home run in the third for his seventh long ball of the season.
Ormonde would add another RBI on a single in the fourth but that would be enough for the pitching trio of starter Kurisu Ueta, then relievers Garrett Bergmann and Riley Fender as Fender was particiularly effective going 2.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit and striking out four Fighting Bees hitters.
Clarke baseball will wrap up their 2025 regular season with a four-game series on the road against William Penn University with the back-to-back days of doubleheaders in Oskaloosa, Iowa scheduled for Friday and Saturday Apr, 25-26 with 1:00 p.m. CT start times set for both days' first games.
