Pride can't clinch weekend split in Sunday defeat to Doane
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In their third matchup against Doane University in a week, the Clarke University baseball team was unable to break through with their first win over the Tigers as Sunday afternoon's matchup ended in a 8-2 Pride loss.
Sunday was more of the same from Saturday's matchup as free bases for Doane was what carried them over CU as both teams recorded eight hits but eight walks from Clarke pitching, a hit batter, and three errors helped the Tigers have more scoring opportunities in the game.
Six of the nine in the Pride starting lineup recorded a hit as Thomas Brannon and Tommy Peterson both had 2-for-4 days but Clarke went nine-up, nine-down in the first three innings and couldn't produce more than one run in the two innings they scored.
Starter Chris Ueta put in a solid outing in his five innings on the mound but was the victim of a pair of errors, one he made himself on a wild pickoff thorw, that led to three unearned runs for Doane in the third inning to get the scoring started.
Clarke baseball will now move into Heart of America Athletic Conference play starting next weekend when they head back to Missouri, Marshall, Mo. specifically, to open their conference schedule with a four-game series against Missouri Valley College as first pitch on each day of the Mar. 9-10 doubleheaders being at 1:00 p.m. CT.
