Maietta's dominant performance leads to Heart recognition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Coming off of their third weekend set of games to start the season, the Clarke University baseball team has received their first weekly honor from the Heart of America Athletic Conference as junior right-handed pitcher Dante Maietta received the Heart's Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday afternoon.

Maietta threw a shutout over seven innings in the Pride's 5-0 win over Jamestown University as the Berwyn, Ill. natvie struck out 12 Jamestown University batters while allowing only two hits and one walk in his 101-pitch performance. In the game, the only baserunner that reached scoring position came in the third inning as Maietta surrendered a two-out triple who was left stranded at third after an inning ending strikeout.

Through three starts, Maietta has the best starter's ERA at 2.50 while also posting a 1.00 WHIP and a 13.00 strikeouts per nine innings average with 26 total strikeouts over his 18 innings pitched.

Still in the middle of their non-conference portion of the season, Clarke baseball is preparing for a trip to St. Louis to play four games against a pair of NAIA opponents with two against Missouri Baptist University and two against Doane University, who they faced off against in a single game last weekend.
